KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12: The Al-Ojeiri Scientific Center announced Saturday that six photographers from Kuwait and across the Gulf region have won top honors in the Arab Astronomy Photography Competition, highlighting regional talent in capturing rare celestial phenomena.
The contest, held under the patronage of the Al-Ojeiri Scientific Center, was organized in collaboration with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), the Department of Physics at Kuwait University, and under the umbrella of the Kuwait Center for Space Research (KCSR).
In a statement to KUNA, Director General of the Center, Yousef Al-Ojeiri, said the competition attracted dozens of astronomy enthusiasts and professional photographers from Kuwait, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and other Arab countries. Entries were evaluated by a specialized committee in three categories: "Blood Moon," "Phases of a Lunar Eclipse," and "Lunar Eclipse with Landscape."
Al-Ojeiri announced the Kuwaiti winners: Dawood Sebae in the "Lunar Eclipse with Landscape" category, Sameera Mahmoud in the "Phases of a Lunar Eclipse" category, and Khaled Al-Mutairi in the "Blood Moon" category.
Winners from other GCC countries included Qassim Hamad of Oman in the "Eclipse with Natural Scenery" category, Fahad Al-Harbi of Saudi Arabia in the "Lunar Eclipse Phases" category, and Majid Al-Fara’i of Oman in the "Total Lunar Eclipse" category.
Al-Ojeiri emphasized that the competition aims to foster a deeper interest in astronomy among students, researchers, and the broader public, noting that such initiatives help nurture scientific curiosity and appreciation for astronomical phenomena across the Arab world.
