KUWAIT CITY, July 25, (KUNA): Martial arts often evoke images of brave warriors employing their skills in hand-to-hand combat or with weapons to defeat adversaries and protect loved ones. Such notions attract men and women from all walks of life, guiding them toward a path of discipline, honor, and self-growth.
For children, martial arts, when taught properly from a young age, can harness their innate capabilities, encouraging kids to become accomplished martial artists or, if necessary, defend themselves and others. In Kuwait, many parents are eager to enroll their children in various martial arts dojos, including Karate, kickboxing, jujitsu, Judo, and the increasingly popular Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Speaking to KUNA, Mohammad Al-De'ee, Under 92 KG champion of the now-defunct Gladiator Fighting Championship (GFC), emphasized that martial arts are often misunderstood as a means to inflict violence. He clarified that while some might misuse it, the vast majority of martial artists are upstanding individuals who seek peace and contribute positively to society.
Al-De'ee highlighted that, under the guidance of skilled and well-mannered instructors, children with confidence issues and shyness can thrive, becoming disciplined individuals who are willing to help themselves and others. He noted that the rising trend of enrolling children in martial arts dojos in Kuwait is driven by parents' desire to see their kids grow into better persons.
MMA Champion and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ) instructor Hussam Qashou mentioned that parents often bring their children to dojos, especially during the summer break when the soaring heat limits outdoor activities. The growing interest in martial arts across the Arab world has produced world champions and attracted media attention. Qashou believes that introducing children to martial arts is a worthwhile and beneficial endeavor.
Mohammad Al-Muzaini, a parent, shared that he enrolled his children in Kajukenbo, a hybrid martial art originating from Hawaii, along with Karate, Judo, Kenpo, and Boxing. Al-Muzaini noted that his children, Fahad (9) and Rakan (7), have greatly benefited from Kajukenbo and are currently preparing for a tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. This preparation has motivated his children to train harder and develop their skills further.
Al-Muzaini and his children expressed their joy in discovering Kajukenbo, stating that the significant benefits of martial arts would last a lifetime.
