Kuwaiti nationality acquired by fraud – Gulf citizen under probe

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 4: The Investigations Department of the Nationality and Travel Documents Department said an unidentified Gulf citizen will be referred to the Public Prosecution Sunday, against the background of obtaining the Kuwaiti citizenship through fraud, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to the security sources the suspect is knee-deep in debt and as a result he was wanted by law and barred from travel, and in order to beat the trap he made use of his Gulf passport to leave the country, and the accumulation of debts on the Gulf played a role in exposing his matter, as he was forced out of the country with his Gulf passport, because his name is on lists who are not authorized to travel outside the country for debts that he owes.

According to a security source, the Nationality Investigations department received information that an unidentified ‘Kuwaiti’ had left the country using a Gulf passport following which personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ran a check on him and discovered the man who worked at a health facility had in fact left the country on several occasions.

The source added, the suspect was taken into custody as soon as he left his workplace and referred for investigation. When he was confronted with the reality, he admitted that it was his father who got him the Kuwaiti passport years back.

When a travel ban was slapped on him, he decided to use his Gulf passport without realizing this could open a can of worms. However, it was not known how many people from that family obtained the Kuwaiti citizenship, or rather the number of children who obtained the citizenship by forgery.
