KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8 : The Ahmadi Misdemeanor Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three months in prison with hard labour after convicting him of reckless and negligent driving and exceeding the speed limit, following his arrest while driving at 190 kilometres per hour.

The ruling was issued by a court headed by Judge Mohammed Talal Al-Hajri.

What made the case particularly serious was the driver's extensive traffic violation record. Court documents revealed that he had accumulated 561 traffic violations, with total fines exceeding KD25,000.

The court considered the repeated violations and the driver's apparent disregard for traffic regulations while examining the case.

In its reasoning, the court stressed that compliance with traffic laws goes beyond simply observing regulations, describing it as a responsibility involving the protection of road users' lives, safety and property.

It emphasised that public roads are a shared right and that reckless driving which endangers others cannot be dismissed as an ordinary traffic violation.

The court further observed that human lives cannot be restored once lost and that an avoidable driving mistake can turn into a tragedy whose consequences cannot be undone by punishment or the passage of time.

Concluding its reasoning with a stern warning, the court declared: "Whoever is not deterred by the sense of responsibility will be deterred by the rule of law."
