Kuwaiti ministries join forces to boost human rights ranking

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7:  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Affairs held a high-level meeting on Tuesday to coordinate efforts aimed at strengthening Kuwait’s human rights framework and improving its international standing in the field.

In a joint move reflecting the government’s commitment to a comprehensive human rights agenda, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi met with Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah to discuss strategies for unifying national efforts and formulating an integrated vision that places the individual at the center of development.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs, the meeting addressed key steps taken by Kuwait in implementing recommendations made by international human rights organizations. The discussions also focused on enhancing institutional capacities within the Ministry of Social Affairs through specialized training programs in cooperation with international bodies.

The two sides further explored launching public awareness campaigns to strengthen societal understanding of the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups, in line with the country’s broader development goals.

Undersecretary Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi lauded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its effective role in elevating Kuwait’s international profile and reinforcing its reputation as a leader in humanitarian values.

In turn, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah commended the Ministry of Social Affairs for its strides in advancing both institutional and field-level human rights practices. She emphasized that the convergence of ministerial efforts reflects the directives of Kuwait’s political leadership to build a holistic, human-centered development model.

The ministry statement noted that the meeting comes within the framework of the government’s approach to strengthening Kuwait’s human rights system and enhancing coordination among national institutions.

In a related development, Director General of the Kuwait Society for the Care of the Disabled (KSCD) Bara’a Al-Janaei reaffirmed the society’s dedication to expanding and upgrading its educational and care services for people with disabilities throughout Kuwait.

Speaking to KUNA on Tuesday, Al-Janaei announced that the KSCD had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private hospital to enhance the delivery of integrated health and education services, with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

He explained that the initiative aims to bolster public-private partnerships and elevate society’s performance through modern technology and professional training, all while adhering to a strategic framework that integrates societal, operational, financial, and developmental goals.

Al-Janaei also highlighted the active role of the Board of Directors in providing strategic guidance and oversight to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the society’s programs. He emphasized KSCD’s efforts to foster voluntary cooperation with national institutions, reinforcing a spirit of collective responsibility toward persons with disabilities.

Concluding his remarks, Al-Janaei praised the Ministry of Social Affairs for its crucial role in enabling the success of national community initiatives and in improving service quality for people with disabilities across the country.
