KUWAIT CITY, Dec 28: The Misdemeanor Court chaired by Judge Abdullah Al-Othman sentenced a Kuwaiti man to five years in prison with hard labor for battering his wife and two daughters, resulting in permanent disability to one of the girls. Attorney Abdul-Mohsin Al-Qattan, representing the plaintiff said the Public Prosecution charged the defendant for breaking the lower jaw of his daughter—as indicated in the medical report. The man is said to have beaten the second daughter and her mother in public, and verbally abused them, through which they suffered moral and psychological damages. Apparently, the man had a misunderstanding with his wife and it developed into physical attack. He extended the fight to his children while they were trying to rescue their mother.

Duo acquitted: Two officials working for a major institute in the country and a general trading and construction company respectively were acquitted of embezzling KD 1.4 million by the Criminal Court. The Public Prosecution accused the suspects of importing substandard equipment below the required specifications through which the company lost the aforementioned sum as a result. They were also accused of conspiring to commit the crime. In their defense, Attorney Ahmad Al-Failakawi said the two defendants denied the accusations during investigations and maintained the equipment they imported on behalf of the company meet the required specifications, stressing they have worked efficiently on similar projects for the company.
