KUWAIT CITY, Dec 20: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three years in prison with hard labor for insulting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through his posts on a social networking site, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The Public Prosecution charged the accused with insulting the Kingdom and harming Kuwait’s relations with another country in accordance with Article Four of Foreign State Security Crimes Law No. 30/1970. Meanwhile, the same court rejected a petition to release a member of the Municipal Council and a businessman accused of bribery, and then adjourned deliberations on the case until Jan 9, 2023.

The two defendants denied the charges, but the court found them guilty of bribery as they received about KD 100,000 in exchange for completing transactions in Kuwait Municipality. Case files indicate that securitymen caught the council member in the act of receiving bribe from an intermediary to complete transactions in the Municipality. After investigations, the prosecution ordered detention of the council member and businessman, pending the interrogation of other suspects.
