KUWAIT CITY, April 2: The Kuwaiti Flag’s symbolism of unity and sovereignty was highlighted when it became a prominent feature of public interaction on social media platforms, serving as a collective expression of loyalty and a sense of belonging under the current circumstances. The flag, which has always symbolized solidarity and resilience, has returned to reaffirm that the true strength of Kuwait lies in the unity of its people and their full support for their leadership.
Recently, WhatsApp in the country witnessed a widespread public campaign as users simultaneously posted images of the Kuwaiti Flag as their status updates, manifesting societal cohesion in facing the ongoing regional conflict. Several citizens and community leaders confirmed to the newspaper that this initiative expresses a deep sense of national belongingness and embodies the unwavering support of the people for their nation and leaders in dealing with the current challenges.
Economic advisor Abdullah Al-Gharib believes that displaying the flag on WhatsApp status conveys a clear message from the Kuwaiti people about their unity and support for their country in difficult times. He said it is an expression of support for the political leadership, indicating that he was among the first to take such action.
Attorney Salem Al-Kandari asserted that this initiative reflects the deep connection of Kuwaitis with their homeland and their readiness to defend it. He pointed out that the people have proven their attachment to their country and their willingness to sacrifice for it throughout various trials since the Iraqi invasion. Media figure Rashid Hamoud bin Shabaan explained that a nation’s strength during crises is measured not only by its military capabilities but also by its people’s awareness and the cohesion of its internal front. He considers this initiative a reflection of the Kuwaiti people’s character and the depth of their loyalty, affirming that societal awareness is the first line of defense against difficulties.
He emphasized that preserving the homeland is a collective responsibility requiring the solidarity of all members of society. He stressed that Kuwait has proven its ability to overcome crises throughout its history, thanks to the unity of its people. Writer Nasser Al-Mutairi pointed out this initiative came at a crucial time, showing to the whole world the extent of the Kuwaiti people’s support for their nation and leadership. He said the present generation inherited the sense of belonging from the first generation and that such scenes deserve to be immortalized as evidence of national unity under all circumstances.
Najat Al-Hashash, President of the Happiness and Positivity Association, state that the trending hashtag for the Kuwaiti flag, bearing the phrase, “O Allah, make this country safe,” is a refined model of collective expression of national belonging and societal awareness in utilizing the digital space to promote positive values. She explained that this interaction contributed to unifying societal feelings, while embodying love for Kuwait as a source of security and stability. She added it also reflected broad participation from citizens, residents, and even fellow Arabs, which boosts the morale and confirms the strength of the social fabric.
Dr. Safaa Zaman, President of the Kuwaiti Information Security Association, affirmed that the trend on social media proves the unity of Kuwaiti society behind the political leadership, represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah. She thinks this is a practical response to the rumors that some social media accounts intend to sow anxiety among the people, indicating the social media is an influential tool in shaping public opinion and even a component of cyber warfare targeting societies, prompting many countries to attempt to regulate or limit it. She added that national trends are gaining importance in light of the challenges that the region is facing, as they reflect the resilience of the Kuwaiti people and their ability to counter rumors. She stressed that the society remains united behind its leadership, as it has demonstrated in various circumstances.
