Kuwait continue dominance as 3rd GCC Games end

KUWAIT CITY, May 31: Kuwaiti fencer Abdulaziz Al-Shatti won the gold medal of the Epee to continue the hosts dominance at the 3rd GCC Games which concluded on Tuesday. Al Shatti beat UAE’S, Khalifa Al Zarooni, 15-8, in the final while Saudi Arabia’s Hussain Al-Taweel and Jawad Al-Daoud won the bronze after reaching the semifinals. Al-Shatti expressed his happiness for the victory.

Al-Shatti acknowledged the competiveness of the field especially his win over Saudi Asian champion Hussein Al-Taweel in the semi-finals. The Kuwaiti champion expressed his gratitude to the local fencing federation. The win raised Kuwait’s tally of medals to 87. These include 32 gold medals, 24 silver and 31 bronze. Bahrain ranked second in the Games with 59 medals, including 20 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze. The UAE are third with 46 medals, including 18 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze. Qatar came fourth with 49 medals - 14 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze. Saudi Arabia are fifth with 59 medals - 12 gold, 19 silver and 28 bronze while Oman came last with 32 medals - 12 gold, five silver and 15 bronze. (KUNA)
