Kuwaiti documentary ‘Without Doors’ wins top award at Dhofar Film Festival

MUSCAT, Sept 10: The Kuwaiti documentary film “Without Doors,” directed by Latifa Al-Qatami, won the Best International Documentary Award at the conclusion of the second edition of the Dhofar International Film Festival in Salalah, Oman, on Wednesday. Organized by the Oman Film Society in strategic partnership with the Omani Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Dhofar Municipality, the festival announced its official winners list following four days of screenings, workshops, and cultural activities. In the feature film categories, the Omani film “Illusion,” directed by Issa Al-Subhi, won the Best Omani Feature Film Award, while the Egyptian film “Closing,” directed by Ahmed Al-Zoghbi, claimed the Best International Feature Film Award. The Moroccan film “Bottles” received the Special Jury Prize, and the Omani film “Forbidden Roses” received a Special Mention in the same competition. In the documentary category, the Omani film “Life on Two Wheels” earned the Best Omani Documentary Award, while “Al-Hussam... The Man” received the Special Jury Prize, with a special mention awarded to the Libyan film “Queen.” The festival featured 32 competing films from 16 countries across four main categories. The winning Kuwaiti entry, “Without Doors,” chronicles the daily lives and resilience of families living under harsh socioeconomic conditions in Uganda.(KUNA)
