AMMAN, May 5: Kuwaiti coach Salem Al-Saeedi has been appointed head coach of the Jordan University of Science and Technology volleyball team ahead of the Jordanian Universities League, becoming the first Kuwaiti to lead a university side in the country.

The move reflects the university’s ambition to strengthen its technical staff with experienced leadership capable of elevating performance and enhancing competitiveness, especially with strong rivalry among participating teams.

Al-Saeedi expressed his pride in the opportunity, thanking the university’s administration for their confidence. He described the role as a new challenge in his coaching journey and a chance to showcase the capabilities of Kuwaiti coaches on an international stage.

He noted that his immediate focus will be on improving players’ physical and technical readiness, while building team chemistry to ensure strong performances and a serious push for the league title.

Al-Saeedi added that his vision extends beyond results, aiming to develop a cohesive and sustainable team that reflects the growing standard of volleyball in the region.

The Jordanian Universities League includes teams from several institutions, among them Applied Science University, Petra University, Al al-Bayt University, Philadelphia University, Princess Sumaya University, Mutah University, Middle East University, Al-Balqa Applied University, the University of Jordan, Al-Zaytoonah University, Yarmouk University, the Hashemite University, Irbid National University, the Islamic Sciences University, and the German Jordanian University.

As a former player, Al-Saeedi represented Al-Jahra Club’s volleyball team, winning the Mubarak Al-Kabeer League title in 2000, along with the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Cup and the Federation Cup in the same year. He also lifted the Federation Cup again in 2003 and had a professional spell with Yarmouk Club during the 1998–1999 season.
