Kuwaiti Citizenship Revoked from 9 Persons Under the Nationality Law

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: The Cabinet has issued a decision to withdraw the Kuwaiti citizenship certificates of nine individuals, as well as those who acquired citizenship through them by dependency, according to an announcement published in the official gazette Kuwait Alyoum on Sunday.

The decision was taken pursuant to Article 21 bis (A) of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 concerning the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments. The article stipulates that Kuwaiti nationality shall be withdrawn if it is found to have been granted unlawfully on the basis of fraud, false statements, or incorrect documentation.

Under the law, citizenship is withdrawn by a decision of the Council of Ministers based on a proposal from the Minister of Interior. The provision also mandates the withdrawal of nationality from individuals who obtained it through dependency on a person whose citizenship certificate is revoked.

The official gazette did not disclose further details regarding the identities of those affected by the decision.
