Kuwaiti citizen sentenced to 3 years for impersonating counselor, receiving gifts from ambassadors

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 10: The Court of Cassation, presided over by Counselor Saleh Al-Murshid, has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three years in prison after finding him guilty of impersonating a counselor and using forged identification documents to attend public and official events.

According to the case details, the accused was arrested by security authorities after suspicions arose that he was falsely claiming a title and official position he did not hold.

Investigations found that the man had used forged IDs and documents to present himself as a counselor, enabling him to attend public and official functions and interact with officials and other prominent figures in that capacity.

The investigation further revealed that he used the assumed identity to establish relationships with several Arab and foreign ambassadors and diplomatic figures. He also received gifts from some ambassadors, taking advantage of the official image he had created for himself.

Authorities determined that his motive was to gain recognition, appreciation and social prestige by portraying himself as an official holding a position he did not actually occupy.

After examining the evidence and circumstances of the case, the Court of Cassation found the accused responsible for the offences attributed to him and imposed a three-year prison sentence.

The ruling is final.
