Kuwaiti Citizen Detained for Alleged Illegal Taxi Service, Assaulting Two Airport Detectives

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 8:  An investigator at the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Police Station has ordered the detention of a Kuwaiti citizen in connection with the alleged assault of two detectives from the Airport Investigations Department.

According to a security source, Airport Investigations officers had reportedly been monitoring the citizen after noticing him frequently visiting Kuwait International Airport, where he would wait for passengers, ask whether they needed a taxi and then accompany them outside.

The officers reportedly became suspicious of his activities after observing his behavior repeatedly. They stopped him and questioned him about his actions, but the situation escalated into a verbal confrontation before the citizen allegedly assaulted the two detectives.

The officers subdued him and referred him to the police station, along with a report accusing him of assaulting the detectives during their attempt to apprehend him.

The source said investigations will determine the circumstances of the incident and assess the citizen’s claim that he was assaulted and acted in self-defense. Surveillance camera footage may also be reviewed to establish what happened.

The incident comes as authorities continue to take action against unauthorized passenger transportation at Kuwait International Airport. Airport taxi drivers reportedly wait for extended periods to pick up passengers, while the Ministry of Interior has warned against illegal passenger transport and takes firm action against those found involved, including the deportation of expatriates in proven cases.
