KUWAIT CITY, Sep 2: A Kuwaiti citizen in his 30s has been detained at a police station in Jleeb after allegedly driving under the influence, insulting two security officers, resisting arrest and damaging a police patrol vehicle.

According to the source, a patrol became suspicious of the manner in which a four-wheel-drive vehicle was being driven in the Jleeb area. Officers stopped the vehicle and reportedly found that the driver was under the influence of an unidentified substance. His father and younger brother were also inside the vehicle.

The officers reportedly asked the driver to hand the vehicle over to his father and get into the patrol car. However, he allegedly insulted the officers and resisted arrest, forcing them to restrain him and place him inside the patrol vehicle.

While inside the patrol car, the suspect allegedly deliberately damaged the vehicle. An investigator later inspected the police car and confirmed the damage.

The suspect was detained at Jleeb Police Station on the investigator’s orders. A sample was taken to determine the substance he was allegedly under the influence of, with authorities preparing to refer him to the judiciary on charges of driving under the influence, insulting law enforcement officers and damaging state property.

The charges could carry imprisonment and vehicle impoundment for driving under the influence, while insulting law enforcement officers can result in imprisonment or a fine of up to KD 2,000, in addition to penalties for damaging state property.
