Kuwaiti cabinet holds weekly meeting

KUWAIT, Nov 9: The cabinet held on Monday its weekly session chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
After the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh said that Minister of Health Dr. Sheikh Basel Al-Sabah briefed the meeting on the latest development concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kuwait.


Minister Al-Saleh indicated that he has informed the ministers on the latest anti-narcotics operation carried out by the Interior Ministry, which led to the confiscation of 270 kilos of drugs at Shuwaikh port, the largest criminal attempt in the history of the country.


The ministers commended the operation and the cabinet called for honoring of members of the security forces and customs for their vigilance.
The cabinet was briefed on the fourth annual report regarding the number of laborers in the workforce according to citizenship, educational level, and sector.


The meeting was informed about environmental violations and hazardous facing firefighters and government workers assigned in South Khaitan and Sulaibiya agricultural areas as well as other locations such as the Al-Naheem scrapyards.


A government committee, consisting of several entities was formed to look into the matter, taking necessary measures to provide safety for firefighters and government employees as well as preventing violations and holding people accountable for them.


The meeting also touched on issue of water surfaces and seepage in Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area, forming a committee to tackle the problem.
The cabinet discussed the first annual report by the national diwan of human rights in 2019, commending committee assigned to review the document and affirmed it contribute to the betterment of the humanitarian situation in the country.


The cabinet of ministers touched on the report connected with the government educational system in preparation for the 2020-21 school year.
The report included a proposal to form a high committee tasked with steering the educational process during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The win by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in the US election was discussed during the meeting with the cabinet congratulating the two officials. (KUNA)
