KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Kuwaiti boxing has moved a step closer to expanding its international presence after the Kuwait Boxing Federation’s extraordinary general assembly unanimously approved its statute in line with the regulations of World Boxing, paving the way for the federation to join the international governing body and creating new opportunities for national teams to compete abroad.
The meeting was held at the federation’s headquarters in Sabah Al-Salem, attended by Chairman Abdullah Khaled Al-Otaibi, Secretary-General Mutlaq Al-Azmi, and Assistant Treasurer Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
The decision is part of the federation board’s efforts to broaden international participation and strengthen ties with major global boxing organizations. It is also expected to help raise the standard of Kuwaiti boxing by giving national team members greater exposure to international competition and opportunities to gain valuable experience.
Al-Otaibi thanked the general assembly members for their attendance, support, and unanimous approval of the move, praising their commitment to the board’s plans to develop the sport and improve its competitive standards.
He said participation in World Boxing competitions would provide a valuable boost to Kuwaiti boxing, allowing local fighters to face opponents from different boxing schools and compete against leading athletes from around the world.
Such exposure, he added, would help improve the boxers’ technical skills and competitive abilities.
Al-Otaibi said the federation hoped to capitalize on the decision by developing a new generation of boxers capable of competing at a high level, achieving strong results and winning medals while raising Kuwait’s flag at international events.
