Kuwaiti Banks Declare 3-Day Operational Pause to Mourn the Passing of Amir

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: The Kuwait Banking Association has declared a three-day suspension of bank operations, commencing tomorrow, Sunday, until Tuesday, December 19, as a mark of respect for the passing of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This decision aligns with the official mourning declared by the Council of Ministers.

In a press statement issued today, Saturday, the Union of Banks conveyed that “Work will resume on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.” Throughout the official mourning period, all local bank branches will remain closed.

Earlier today, the Amiri Diwan announced with profound sadness to the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and the global community, the passing of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, EAmir of the State of Kuwait, who departed on December 16, 2023.

In response to this great loss, the Council of Ministers declared an official mourning period lasting forty days and mandated the closure of all official departments for three days, concluding on the evening of Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
