Kuwaiti and Two Asian Expats Detained in Drug Possession Case

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 27: The General Department for Drug Control, through its Operations Department and following authorization from the Public Prosecution, has arrested a Kuwaiti citizen and two Asian expatriates in coordinated operations carried out in the areas of Al-Manqaf, Al-Riqa, and Al-Mahboula. The arrests followed intelligence reports indicating that the suspects had illegal narcotic substances.

According to a security source, two Asian expatriates were found in possession of approximately 15 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and a digital electronic weighing scale, indicating suspected involvement in drug-related activities. No narcotic substances were discovered in the possession of the Kuwaiti citizen; however, he was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.

The source explained that the two expatriates will be referred to the Public Prosecution on charges related to drug trafficking and consumption, in accordance with the country’s recently amended drug law. The law imposes strict penalties, including capital punishment, for individuals convicted of drug smuggling or trafficking. The Kuwaiti citizen, meanwhile, will face legal action under provisions of the law on drug use.

It was further revealed that the citizen has a prior criminal record involving drug-related offenses. In addition, one of the expatriates was already subject to a travel ban and was wanted by authorities in connection with outstanding financial cases.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing anti-narcotics operations and enforcing the law with full rigor as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety.
