Kuwait witnesses anti-corruption triumph as rankings surge and financial disclosures soar to 99.6%

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 7: Head of the Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, declared on Thursday that an overwhelming 99.6 percent of individuals falling under its financial disclosure regulations have successfully submitted their documents. This notable compliance signifies a significant stride in the nation’s commitment to enhancing anti-corruption measures, resulting in commendable global rankings.

Addressing the audience at Nazaha’s third forum in honor of International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, Al-Ibrahim highlighted the agency’s success in implementing and refining laws crucial for Kuwait’s robust anti-corruption framework. Emphasizing the positive impact, he credited the enactment of new laws, particularly those addressing conflicts of interest and amending legislative election laws, for fostering transparency and combating corruption.

Al-Ibrahim proudly announced Kuwait’s improved standing in international rankings, securing an additional point in the Corruption Perceptions Index. Kuwait’s recognition for securing the second position in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by the World Justice Project (WJP) earned another point. Furthermore, Kuwait ascended eight ranks in the International Institute for Management (IMD), a noteworthy achievement compared to its inaugural year of membership.

The third forum witnessed active participation from international organizations, government institutions, private sector entities, and a representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The collective engagement underscored the collaborative efforts across sectors to fortify Kuwait’s commitment to combat corruption and bolster its global standing in anti-corruption initiatives.
