KUWAIT CITY, Feb 5 KUNA): Kuwait claimed the title of the first Arab Wheelchair Basketball Championship, defeating Egypt 72-68
Palestine secured third place with a 53-39 victory over Syria.
The final, held at the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club, was attended by Dr. Dalal Al-Othman, Director-General of the Public Authority for the Disabled; Shafi Al-Hajeri, Chairman of the Kuwait Wheelchair Basketball Federation; and Egypt’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammad Abul-Wafa.
Speaking to KUNA after the match, Dr. Al-Othman reaffirmed the Authority’s support for the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club, praising its pivotal role in developing sports talent among people with disabilities. She also congratulated the Kuwaiti team on their historic win and expressed hope that the team would continue achieving success in future international competitions.
Al-Hajeri hailed the championship as a testament to the participants’ determination and resilience, highlighting their ability to overcome challenges and defy disability.
Kuwait’s hosting of the championship reflects the nation’s commitment to strengthening fraternal ties among Arab countries and promoting regional sports, particularly in the field of disabled sports.
Ambassador Abul-Wafa also congratulated the Kuwaiti team on their performance and victory, thanking Kuwait for providing a platform that fosters sporting excellence and reinforces the sisterly bonds among Arab nations.
