TUNIS, Aug 26 (KUNA): Kuwait’s junior athletics team claimed four medals on Monday, including two golds and two bronzes, at the U18 Arab Athletics Championship held in Tunis from August 23 to 27.
Mohammad Al-Duaij captured gold in the high jump, setting a new personal best of 2.06 meters, while Asian champion Abdullatif Faisal won gold in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.64, finishing at the top among Arab competitors.
Abdulrahman Al-Azmi earned bronze in the long jump, establishing a new Kuwaiti record for the youth category with a distance of 6.80 meters, and rising star Mahdi Al-Sabbagh claimed bronze in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.20 meters.
Kuwait’s junior national team coach, Dr. Nasser Al-Jarallah, told KUNA that these results reflect the success of a long-term development plan implemented by the national team committee and the athletics federation.
The Arab U18 Athletics Championship brings together athletes from 18 countries, providing a platform to showcase and develop emerging talent across various events.
Kuwait’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Mansour Al-Omar, reaffirmed on Monday Kuwait’s commitment to supporting its athletes in all tournaments and international competitions.
The remarks came during Ambassador Al-Omar’s reception of the National Athletics Team Delegation ahead of the 11th Arab Youth Athletics Championship, which began on August 23 in Tunisia and will conclude on August 27.
The Ambassador congratulated the athletes on their achievements so far and wished them continued success in upcoming events.
Head of the delegation, Abdul Aziz Manouh, praised the Embassy’s warm hospitality and daily support, presenting a commemorative shield to Ambassador Al-Omar. Al-Manouh emphasized that the championship is part of a strategic plan to develop the next generation of Kuwaiti athletes by giving them experience against top competitors in the Arab world ahead of future international championships.
