Kuwait, WHO hold regional workshop on health data classification
The Ministry of Health and WHO hold a workshop on health data classification for professionals from Kuwait, GCC countries, and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: The Ministry of Health, represented by the National Health Information Center, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), organized a training workshop for health professionals from Kuwait, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The workshop, which runs until November 19 at the Symphony Hotel, welcomed participants both in person and online.

Director of the Center, Dr. Fatemah Al-Asoumi, told KUNA that the workshop is part of the Center’s strategic goal to establish a reliable electronic health information system that supports evidence-based decision-making and enables effective action based on accurate, high-quality data.

Dr. Al-Asoumi explained that the sessions brought together physicians, WHO specialists, and technical teams from the Ministry of Health, focusing on the importance of standardizing the classification and documentation of all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

She praised the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to advance the health system and highlighted that WHO participants commended Kuwait’s commitment to adopting the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI).

According to Dr. Al-Asoumi, adopting the classification system enhances transparency in health data, facilitates international cooperation in health studies, and improves health planning.

The workshop also included training on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the health information system, with remote participation from GCC and Eastern Mediterranean region professionals.

“The workshop supports our strategic objectives to build a robust electronic health information system that promotes evidence-based health decisions and effective action,” Dr. Al-Asoumi said, reaffirming Kuwait’s dedication to developing its health infrastructure.
