Kuwait Welcomes US–Iran Memorandum, Hails Step Toward Regional Stability

KUWAIT CITY, June 15: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the agreement reached on a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step toward reducing tensions, enhancing regional stability and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said the agreement, which includes provisions for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations and addresses some outstanding issues, reflects a constructive move toward the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Kuwait praised the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar and other friendly and brotherly countries in helping bridge differences and create conditions for reaching the understanding.

Reaffirming its support for resolving conflicts through peaceful means in line with international law and the UN Charter, the ministry expressed hope that the agreement would serve as a foundation for broader solutions to remaining issues.

It stressed the importance of adhering to principles of good neighbourliness, including mutual respect, strengthening trust, non-interference in internal affairs, refraining from the use or threat of force, and ending support for proxy activities, to reinforce regional and international security and stability.

The ministry also called on all parties to approach upcoming negotiations in a positive and constructive spirit, saying this would help promote cooperation, stability and prosperity for the peoples of the region and beyond.
