KUWAIT CITY, Oct 15: Authorities have issued a reminder to bicycle and motorcycle riders to comply with traffic regulations, use permitted roads and protect pedestrians, warning that violations can lead to vehicle impoundment and legal penalties.

The guidelines emphasize safe riding practices, including slowing down before speed bumps, crossing them within the designated lane and avoiding shortcuts through pedestrian walkways.

  • Ride over speed bumps within the designated lane.
  • Do not pass between a speed bump and the curb.
  • Do not ride motorcycles on sidewalks.
  • Do not ride on pedestrian bridges or their ramps.
  • Do not use pedestrian walkways as shortcuts.
  • Use permitted roads and protect pedestrians.
  • Obey traffic signs and road markings.
  • Do not ride against the direction of traffic.
  • Do not exit at locations where exiting is prohibited.
  • Do not turn or change direction in violation of traffic signs.

Penalties and enforcement measures

The announced measures include the following penalties for violations:

  • Bicycle impoundment: Up to 60 days, with administrative action determined according to the type of violation.
  • Motorcycle impoundment: Up to 60 days, with administrative action determined according to the type of violation.
  • Repeated violations: Administrative action may be taken against the operating company when its drivers repeatedly violate traffic regulations.
  • Riding on sidewalks: A traffic settlement amount of KD 30 is specified.
  • Court referral for sidewalk riding: The penalty may be imprisonment for up to one month, a fine ranging from KD 50 to KD 100, or either penalty.

Authorities stressed that compliance with traffic regulations is essential to protecting riders and pedestrians and maintaining road safety.

The campaign's message is clear: riders must follow traffic instructions, respect pedestrian areas and avoid dangerous or prohibited manoeuvres to prevent accidents and legal consequences.
