Kuwait has contributed over $23 billion to assist developed countries in mitigating the impacts of climate change. It is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 and methane from sources like gasoline and coal by 80 percent before the end of the year 2040. Another important goal is to transition to solar energy for electricity generation by 2050. Kuwait is determined to meet these challenging objectives by working in cooperation with other countries that have already made progress and learning from their experiences. Kuwait has provided more than 1,330 loans totaling $23 billion to developing countries for projects related to green energy and environmental protection. We do not work in isolation. Our contributions aim to improve the well-being of humankind and ensure the long-term safety of our planet for future generations. The ultimate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, which is approximately 30 years from now.
This ambitious target is a clear and firmly held commitment by the State of Kuwait. Our dedication goes beyond words; it is reflected in our financial contributions, which stand as a testament to our resolve to protect the global environment, both locally and worldwide. Kuwait is also calling on developed countries to honor their commitments to providing financial and technical assistance to developing countries in the fight against climate change.
As usual, Kuwait will continue to fulfill its financial and technical promises with all available resources. We will continue to be dedicated to protecting the planet and ensuring a safe and sustainable future for generations to come. Our efforts are in line with our strong commitment to achieving carbon neutrality. The Deputy Amir’s speech before the world was a clear and unwavering statement of Kuwait’s determination to work toward a cleaner environment steadfastly and relentlessly.
