Kuwait volleyball team heads to Cairo for Arab Championship preparations

Players intensify their preparation for the championship.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept. 17: Kuwait’s national volleyball team travels to Cairo on Friday for a training camp as part of its preparations for the Arab Men’s Volleyball Championship in Jordan from October 5 to 15.

The delegation is headed by Kuwait Volleyball Association President Dr. Jaber Al-Merri and includes administrators Abdullah Al-Najdi and Abdulhadi Al-Merri, Argentine head coach Julian Alvarez, assistant coach Zaid Al-Kadhmi, statistician Lucas Al-Borche, fitness coach Agustin Haveria, physiotherapist Ahmed Limam, and international referee Ahmed Al-Aneizan.

The coaching staff has selected 17 players for the Cairo camp and the Arab Championship: Abdulnasser Al-Anzi, Abdullah Al-Anzi, Ibrahim Mandeel, Rashed Anbar, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Saud Al-Duwaisan, Omar Al-Anzi, Barak Al-Anzi, Talal Al-Salman, Ali Saadoun, Abdulrahman Al-Hashemi, Ahmed Al-Manees, Khaled Bouarki, Abdulaziz Najm, Mohammed Al-Dhafiri, Fahad Al-Saad and Abdullah Bouftein.

The Cairo camp will be the second phase of the team’s preparation program after the players have completed an intensive domestic training phase at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex.

Assistant coach Al-Kadhmi said the initial phase focused on improving technical and physical fitness, endurance and strength, while integrating physical and tactical work.

He added that the Cairo camp would feature more intensive tactical training and several friendly matches to improve team cohesion and technical readiness. Kuwait will travel directly from Cairo to Jordan for the Arab Championship.

The national team last competed in July at the West Asia Championship in Oman, finishing fourth.
