KUWAIT CITY, July 9: The Kuwait men’s national volleyball team has left Cairo and headed to Muscat to take part in the second edition of the West Asia Championship, scheduled to run from July 14 to 22 with the participation of leading teams from across the region.
Kuwait will enter the tournament after completing a preparatory camp in the Egyptian capital, where the squad spent several days undergoing intensive training and playing four friendly matches against the Egyptian national team.
The camp formed a key part of the team’s preparations, with Argentine coach Julian Alvarez focusing on improving physical fitness, sharpening technical skills, and building greater understanding among the players. The coaching staff also used the friendly games to test different tactical approaches and evaluate the squad ahead of the regional challenge.
Kuwait Volleyball Federation board member and team delegation head Ziad Al-Anzi said the Cairo camp achieved its intended goals, both technically and physically. He highlighted the benefit of facing a strong Egyptian side, saying the experience helped the players improve their readiness and gain valuable match experience.
Al-Anzi added that the coaching and administrative staff noticed significant progress from the players throughout the camp, particularly in teamwork, tactical discipline, and overall performance. He also praised the team’s positive atmosphere and determination to represent Kuwait strongly.
He acknowledged that the West Asia Championship will be highly competitive due to the balanced level of the participating teams but emphasized that Kuwait is aiming for strong performances and a place among the top contenders.
According to the tournament draw, Kuwait has been placed in Group A and will open its campaign against Syria on July 15 before meeting Qatar on July 18 in the preliminary stage.
