KUWAIT CITY, Aug 12: The Kuwait Volleyball Association is stepping up efforts to develop its refereeing system by organizing a specialized course for newly recruited referees at the Leaders Preparation Center in Khaldiya from August 30 to September 10.
The initiative is part of the association’s strategy to attract and develop young refereeing talent and establish a strong pool of qualified officials capable of handling volleyball competitions to the required technical and professional standards.
The course will combine theoretical lectures with practical training, covering the technical and legal aspects of refereeing, recent amendments to the rules, and the proper handling of different situations that may arise during matches.
International referees Ali Al-Ostad, chairman of the Referees Committee, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Anizan, the committee’s rapporteur, will conduct the course. They will draw on their experience to improve the participants’ technical and physical readiness and prepare them for a gradual transition into competitive officiating.
Dr. Al-Anizan said the program is designed to develop a new generation of referees and strengthen the overall standard of officiating in line with the continued growth of volleyball locally and regionally.
He added that the initiative would help provide the association’s competitions with qualified referees in the coming seasons while laying the foundation for a young and capable refereeing base.
Al-Anizan also highlighted the cooperation between the association’s Board of Directors and the Referees Committee in developing officials and enhancing their technical capabilities. He said the committee regularly organizes training and qualification programs for both existing and new referees ahead of each season to ensure they are fully prepared to officiate matches across all age groups.
He stressed that keeping referees updated on the latest technical and legal developments has contributed positively to their performances. The standard of Kuwaiti volleyball referees has improved significantly in recent years, he said, reflecting the continued efforts of the association and its Referees Committee to develop and qualify national officiating talent.
