‘Kuwait visa in 5 minutes, all nationalities welcome’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: “Kuwait today is not as it was in the past. It is witnessing a phase of rapid development in various sectors, coinciding with the issuance of new laws,” says First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, who affirmed that the future of the State of Kuwait will be better, God willing. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef made the statement to journalists on the sidelines of the Green Urban Development Initiatives Forum at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the 360 Mall. He asserted that Kuwait welcomes all who wish to visit, provided they respect its laws and the traditions of its people. He emphasized that Kuwait has no issues with any nationality as long as everyone adheres to the system and the values it cherishes.

“Everyone is welcome any time,” he stressed. He pointed out that Kuwait has unique climatic advantages that make it a distinctive tourist destination from Oct 15 to April 15 each year, a feature that is not available in many neighboring countries. He disclosed, “We are currently streamlining procedures for visitors. Visas and residency permits are now readily available and easy to obtain. A Kuwaiti visa can be obtained in just five minutes through the modern systems launched by the Ministry of Interior. This exemplifies the country’s rapid digital transformation and administrative development across various sectors.” He also confirmed his upcoming meeting with the Interior Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. He stated that each minister will present their individual agenda during the meeting, and that the details of the agenda will be announced later.

Moreover, he expressed his happiness over the decision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to approve the new drug law, which is scheduled to be published in the official gazette, ‘Kuwait Al-Youm’ this week after His Highness signs it. He said this law will be a real deterrent to drug traffickers and even drug users. He added that the drug issue is not unique to Kuwait, as it is a shared challenge to the security and stability of all Gulf countries. He indicated that the GCC countries enjoy security, thanks to Allah, but some are keen on destroying the young generation through drugs. He believes that close coordination between the Interior Ministers of the GCC countries and the exchange of security information at the highest level are crucial in dealing with the drugs issue.

He pointed out that “the sources of drugs are diverse and arrive from distant countries, but thanks to Gulf cooperation, shipments no longer reach our countries as they did before, because security agencies have been able to thwart many major smuggling operations.” He affirmed that His Highness the Amir fully supports the security services. “Thanks to His Highness’ guidance and unwavering support, we now have a comprehensive and advanced radar system covering our land and sea borders, enabling us to prevent the entry of massive quantities of narcotics,” he added. He also talked about the Alternative Penalties Law, indicating that it will be adopted and implemented in the near future. He said “we will study similar experiences in the GCC countries and use them as basis in drafting our own legislation on alternative penalties.”
