Kuwait updates cancer treatment system with new biological therapies
Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi delivers the opening speech at the conference

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi announced on Saturday that the Ministry has updated its treatment system for cancer patients by incorporating new, globally recognized biological therapies administered subcutaneously, now offered for the first time in Kuwait in certain specialties.

Dr. Al-Awadhi announced the inauguration of the first Kuwait Conference on Gynecological and Urological Oncology. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to supporting modern cancer treatments and adopting the latest medical technologies.

The minister highlighted the opening of the new Kuwait Cancer Control Center, equipped with advanced technology, as a cornerstone of the Ministry’s plan to develop national talent and utilize international expertise among physicians, nurses, technicians, and administrators. He noted that the initiative culminates in a global partnership with Gustave Roussy Hospital in France.

“The Kuwait Cancer Control Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services and plays a vital role in scientific research, training medical personnel, and raising public awareness about early detection and prevention,” Dr. Al-Awadhi said.

The minister added that the conference brings together experts and consultants from Kuwait and abroad within a high-level scientific framework to exchange experiences and discuss the latest developments in tumor diagnosis and treatment, aiming to enhance patient care.

Dr. Al-Awadhi said Kuwait’s health sector has witnessed rapid development in medical care concepts, emphasizing accurate diagnosis, advanced treatment, and specialized care that places the patient at the center of the healthcare system. He also announced plans to establish a new specialized cancer treatment center equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, designed to accelerate treatment procedures and improve healthcare outcomes.

He underscored the importance of Kuwait’s human resources in healthcare, highlighting the role of both Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti doctors, surgeons, nurses, radiology and laboratory technicians, and administrators, describing them as the primary element in confronting cancer.

Dr. Al-Awadhi noted that early detection has increased recovery rates to over 70 percent for some tumors and up to 90 percent in certain cases, improving patients’ quality of life, particularly for diseases affecting women and families.

For her part, Dr. Mariam Al-Otaibi, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, said the conference serves as a leading scientific platform that fosters cooperation, enhances Kuwait’s position in global oncology, and reflects the country’s commitment to awareness programs, early detection initiatives, and provision of the latest treatments.

She added that rapid scientific advancements in oncology have led to a qualitative leap in patient care, improving survival rates and quality of life.
