KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: Kuwait University on Monday launched its electric mobility project, Masar 1 (Route 1), at Sabah Al-Salem University City, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and modernize transportation within the campus.
In her remarks at the launch ceremony, Kuwait University President Dr. Dina Al-Maim described Route 1 as a “significant step forward in fostering sustainable transportation” and the “first organized electric transportation project of its kind in Kuwait,” highlighting the initiative as a milestone in improving campus services. She added that the project aligns with the university’s vision to provide safe and efficient transport options, ease movement between buildings and colleges, and reduce traffic congestion, contributing to a sophisticated and integrated educational environment.
Dr. Al-Maim also thanked all supporting entities, noting that the collaboration reflects a constructive community partnership that strengthens sustainable initiatives and supports the university’s efforts to enhance its services.
The Governor of Farwaniya, Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, praised the project, particularly acknowledging the General Secretariat of Endowments for providing 15 electric vehicles for campus use. He said the initiative demonstrates the university and its partners’ commitment to improving campus infrastructure and delivering advanced services for the academic community.
The launch ceremony included a visual presentation by Yousef Al-Khamis, Director of Security and Safety, detailing the project’s implementation phases, approved routes, and the electric vehicles employed.
The Masar 1 project marks a pioneering effort to integrate smart, eco-friendly transportation solutions within Kuwaiti universities.
