KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Kuwait University (KU) has launched its first-ever “Cultural Cinema” initiative in collaboration with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), aiming to enhance students’ cultural and artistic awareness and infuse university life with enriching activities.
The announcement was made by the Deanship of Student Affairs, which described the initiative as a new chapter in the university’s cultural engagement efforts.
Dr. Salem Al-Shammari, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Activities at the Deanship, said in a press statement on Sunday that the Cultural Cinema initiative marks a qualitative addition to KU's student programs. The inaugural screening is scheduled for October 8 at the College of Arts.
Al-Shammari emphasized that the initiative blends education with entertainment, offering students fresh opportunities to explore history and cultural identity through the lens of cinema.
He expressed appreciation for the partnership with the NCCAL and voiced hope that the initiative would evolve into a permanent platform for cultural and artistic awareness within the student community.
As part of the program, a curated selection of historical and documentary films will be screened across different colleges in Sabah Al-Salem University City. These films aim to highlight significant cultural and historical events that have shaped the region.
The screenings will be accompanied by a special exhibition featuring rare collectibles, documents, and photographs from the history of Kuwaiti cinema, providing students with insight into the evolution of this art form and its role in shaping the cultural memory of Kuwaiti society.
The initiative reflects Kuwait University's broader commitment to fostering a vibrant and culturally engaged student environment in partnership with national cultural institutions.
