Kuwait University History Delegation Strengthens Academic Exchange During China Visit

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 17: A delegation of history professors from Kuwait University has concluded a 13-day scientific visit to China, covering Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, which included academic meetings at two Chinese universities alongside field visits to historical, cultural and industrial sites.

The delegation comprised eight professors and two postgraduate researchers: Prof Dr Abdullah Al-Hajri, Dr Abdullah Al-Najdi, Dr Khaled Al-Nouri, Dr Abdullah Al-Hatlani, Dr Nayef Suhail, Dr Bader Al-Rashidi, Dr Hamad Al-Qahtani and Prof Dr Abdulhadi Al-Ajmi, along with PhD student Mohammad Al-Shammali and postgraduate student Ahmad Ashwi.

The tour began with the delegation’s arrival in Guangzhou before proceeding to Beijing, where the group opened its programme with a visit to the National Museum of China and viewed the exterior of Niujie Mosque. The following day, the delegation visited the Great Wall at Badaling, followed by the Water Cube and Bird’s Nest stadium at the Olympic Green.

The historical tour continued with visits to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, the Shichahai area and the Drum Tower, before the delegation held an academic meeting at Beijing Foreign Studies University and visited the Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan). The Beijing leg also included visits to Yonghegong Lama Temple, the Temple of Heaven and the historic Qianmen Street.

The delegation then travelled by high-speed rail from Beijing to Shanghai, touring Nanjing Road, the City God Temple and the Bund, along with a cruise on the Huangpu River. In Shanghai, the group visited the Shanghai Museum, the Jinmao Tower, Xintiandi and Wukang Road, before holding an academic meeting at Shanghai International Studies University and touring the ancient town of Zhujiajiao.

From Shanghai, the delegation proceeded to Guangzhou, where it visited the Chen Clan Academy and the areas of Yongqing Fang, Lizhiwan and Shangxiajiu, in addition to touring Shamian Island, Huacheng Square, Haixinsha, Haixin Bridge and Canton Tower Plaza.

The visit concluded with a trip to Shenzhen, which included a visit to the headquarters of BYD to learn about its electric vehicle technology, as well as the Huaqiangbei commercial district, before the delegation departed for Kuwait via Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.

The visit reflected the keenness of Kuwait University’s history professors to organize a well-planned scientific programme, giving them and the two accompanying postgraduate researchers direct exposure to China’s educational and cultural institutions.
