KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Capital Security Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, seized 60 sheep carcasses of Pakistani origin that were being sold as Georgian-origin meat.

The inspection campaign also uncovered several food safety violations, including the sale of spoiled and expired products, tampering with expiration dates and selling thawed frozen meat as fresh meat. The authority issued violation reports and ordered the establishment closed.

According to the authority's inspection team, the seized items included sheep carcasses of Pakistani origin marketed as Georgian, as well as frozen Australian meat products, including intestines, hearts and kidneys, that were being thawed and sold as fresh.

Inspectors also found sheep heads bearing expiration dates that had allegedly been added by the establishment, although their source and validity could not be verified. In addition, some sheep meat showed changes in color, appearance and other characteristics, with visible mold detected on the fat. The inspectors found that the meat was being cut up for use despite its apparent spoilage.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition said it would continue its inspection campaigns to strengthen oversight of food establishments, ensure food safety and protect consumers.
