KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: Kuwait Television (KTV) and the Dubai Media Council on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint media production, marking a new step in strengthening Kuwaiti-Emirati cooperation in the media sector.
The MoU was signed by the Ministry of Information and the Dubai Media Council during a ceremony attended by the Minister of Health, Minister of Information and Culture, and Acting Minister of State for Youth Affairs AhmAd Al-Awadhi, and Vice President and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and President of the Dubai Press Club Mona Al-Marri.
Speaking at a media event organized by the Dubai Press Club in Kuwait, Al-Awadhi said the gathering reflects the deep fraternal ties between the State of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. He stressed the pivotal role of media as an effective tool for strengthening communication, consolidating shared values, and building bridges of understanding between peoples.
Al-Awadhi described the agreement as a significant milestone in media cooperation between the two brotherly nations, opening wider horizons for exchanging expertise, integrating efforts, and developing joint media content. He said the partnership aims to keep pace with rapid transformations in the media industry, enhance professionalism and raise the quality of media output.
He affirmed that Kuwaiti-Emirati media cooperation is grounded in a shared vision backed by the political leadership of both countries, represented by His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This support, he said, provides a solid foundation for strengthening institutional cooperation and expanding collaboration across various sectors.
Al-Awadhi noted that the MoU for joint media production translates this vision into action, contributing to the development of media production systems, the exchange of content and expertise, and the empowerment of media professionals. He added that the agreement will help produce content that reflects the identity of both countries and addresses audiences with a modern approach and professional responsibility.
He said the Ministry of Information views the cooperation as a strategic partnership aimed at improving media performance, keeping pace with digital transformation, and enhancing the regional and international presence of Gulf media through joint initiatives with sister institutions in the UAE. He added that the initiative serves the media message and aligns with the aspirations of the coming phase.
Al-Awadhi emphasized that the Kuwaiti-Emirati media gathering represents a model of constructive cooperation that reinforces unity and underscores the role of media as a key pillar in supporting fraternal relations, raising awareness, and highlighting the achievements and future ambitions of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
For her part, Al-Marri said the Dubai Press Club organized the Emirati-Kuwaiti media event, attended by more than 100 media professionals, artists, and content creators, to celebrate the historical and fraternal ties between the two nations.
“When we say the UAE and Kuwait are brothers forever, we are not merely repeating a slogan, but recalling a long history written with love and reinforced by sincerity and loyalty,” she said.
Al-Marri noted that media cooperation between the two countries dates back to 1969, when Dubai launched its first official television broadcast with Kuwaiti support. She said the moment represented genuine Gulf unity, where Emirati ambition met Kuwaiti expertise to open a new chapter in Gulf media history.
She added that the Dubai Press Club has strengthened these ties for more than 25 years through close cooperation with the Kuwaiti media community, particularly through events such as the Arab Media Summit.
Al-Marri said the occasion also coincides with the silver jubilee of the Arab Media Award, which has honored numerous prominent Kuwaiti writers, journalists, and thinkers over the years in recognition of their contributions to Gulf and Arab media.
She concluded that what unites the UAE and Kuwait goes beyond celebration, encompassing a shared history, an integrated present, and a future being built together.
