KUWAIT CITY, June 29: Kuwait’s national under-18 basketball team departs today for Cairo, Egypt, to begin a 15-day training camp as part of its preparations for the Gulf Championship, which serves as the qualifier for the Asian Cup finals. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, from July 17 to 22.
The delegation is headed by Acting Assistant Secretary-General and Chairman of the Training and National Teams Committee, Mohammed Al-Hassawi. It includes team administrator Ghazi Al-Otaibi, Serbian head coach Marko, Serbian fitness coach Milan, assistant coach Yahya Al-Bahar, and a squad of 16 players:
Yousef Al-Ghanim, Hussein Bouftain, Ali Al-Rabah, Ahmed Al-Rashid, Mishal Al-Azmi, Omar Murad, Furaij Al-Furaij, Abdullah Al-Juraid, Omar Al-Saleh, Musaed Al-Obaidi, Ali Al-Salahi, Abdulrahman Al-Marzouq, Abdullah Al-Ali, Ali Al-Hindal, Amir Asadallah, and Adam Asadallah.
Al-Hassawi stressed that the overseas camp is a key step in the team’s build-up for the Gulf Championship, noting that the federation aims to remain competitive and return to podium finishes in youth competitions, as achieved in previous editions.
He added that the upcoming Gulf Championship is expected to be highly competitive, with all participating teams preparing at a strong level.
He also confirmed that Kuwait will play several friendly matches against top Egyptian clubs during the camp, highlighting that the technical staff prepared the training program early to ensure optimal readiness.
Al-Hassawi thanked the Public Authority for Sports for its continued support in developing national teams, expressing hope that the preparation phase will proceed as planned and deliver the desired results.
