Kuwait U-17 volleyball team heads to Bahrain for Arab Championship

CAIRO, Aug 6: The Kuwait U-17 national volleyball team left Cairo for Manama, Bahrain, where it will compete in the 2nd Arab U-17 Volleyball Championship, scheduled from August 7 to 17.

Six teams will contest the tournament — Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Algeria — with the competition following a single round-robin format. The top four teams at the end of the preliminary stage will advance to the semifinals.

Kuwait wrapped up its preparations with a training camp in Cairo after beginning its domestic program in early July. During the camp, the team played four friendly matches to fine-tune its preparations, concluding with a 3-1 loss to the host nation, Egypt.

The young Blue squad will begin its campaign against Saudi Arabia on Sunday before facing Egypt a day later. It will then meet Bahrain, Jordan, and Algeria in its remaining group-stage matches as it seeks a place in the last four.

Delegation head and Kuwait Volleyball Association board member Naif Al-Failakawi said the Cairo camp fulfilled its technical objectives and helped raise the players' level through intensive training sessions and valuable match experience.

"The players have shown great determination and commitment throughout the preparation period," Al-Failakawi said. "They are eager to represent Kuwaiti volleyball in the best possible way and compete strongly in the Arab Championship."

He also praised the Kuwait Volleyball Association's Board of Directors for its full support, noting that the federation ensured the success of the Cairo camp by providing the necessary resources, removing logistical obstacles, and creating an ideal environment for the team's preparations.
