KUWAIT CITY, Oct 26 : Kuwait’s Traffic Department has urged motorists to prepare their vehicles for winter weather and rainfall by checking tires, brakes, windshield wipers and lights, while maintaining safe distances and adhering to speed limits.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department in the Operations and Traffic Sector, stressed the importance of preventive measures as weather conditions change and roads become more hazardous during rainfall.

Speaking on Kuwait Radio’s “Sabah” programme, Bu Hassan said rain can reduce visibility and tire grip on road surfaces, increasing the need for caution and responsible driving.

He advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling, maintain sufficient distances from vehicles ahead and adjust their speed to suit road and weather conditions.

Bu Hassan also urged drivers to stay informed about road closures and traffic diversions by following the Ministry of Interior’s official social media accounts. He recommended using navigation and map applications to identify alternative routes and avoid congested roads.

Warnings for desert trips and off-road activities

Motorists heading to desert areas for camping and recreational activities were advised to take additional precautions and select locations away from main roads and highways.

Bu Hassan stressed that vehicles should not be parked along the sides of main and express roads, where they could create hazards for other road users.

He also called on off-road motorcyclists to avoid using main roads and to practise their activities only in designated and safe locations.

Drivers urged to protect pedestrians

The Traffic Department official reminded pedestrians to use designated crossing points and urged drivers to remain alert, particularly in busy areas where pedestrian movement is heavy.

He emphasized that following traffic regulations, observing speed limits and taking precautions during unstable weather conditions are essential to reducing accidents and protecting lives.

The department urged all road users to exercise caution during the rainy season and take responsibility for their own safety and that of others.
