KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7 : Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has stepped up monitoring of delivery motorcycle riders after traffic authorities detected several violations that officials said endangered both the riders and other road users.

Colonel Othman Mohammed Gharib, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, said the violations were detected by the Traffic Control Room, with legal action taken against those involved. Traffic tickets were issued and motorcycles found committing violations were impounded.

Speaking during the traffic segment of the “Good Morning Kuwait” programme on Kuwait TV, Gharib said the violations included driving against the flow of traffic, dangerous or improper overtaking — particularly at intersections — and running red lights.

He stressed that working for a delivery company does not give motorcycle riders the right to disregard traffic regulations or put themselves and other road users at risk in an effort to reach customers more quickly.

Gharib also said the Ministry of Interior has deployed a field traffic plan during peak hours, with patrols positioned along key roads and intersections to improve traffic flow, respond to congestion and deal with accidents.

He noted that some of the current congestion is linked to roadworks, maintenance, diversions and partial road closures, urging motorists to follow traffic officers’ instructions, directional signs and designated diversions rather than using roads improperly.

Gharib emphasized that Kuwait’s traffic regulations and their amendments are intended to protect road users, regulate traffic and improve road safety. He added that traffic officers will continue monitoring violations and taking legal action.

He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility, calling on all motorists and delivery riders to comply with traffic rules to help protect lives and property and keep traffic moving safely.
