Kuwait Traffic Blitz: 70 Arrested, 34,375 Violations in Massive Crackdown

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: The General Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior conducted another series of campaigns throughout the country, under the leadership of Traffic and Operations Sector Head Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Azmi. This is in line with the commitment of the department to regulate traffic flow, strictly enforce the law, guarantee road safety and instill discipline. The campaigns, which were carried out from Sept 7-13, resulted in the recording of 34,375 traffic violations, handling of 2,625 traffic reports, arrest of 70 individuals wanted by law, 47 with expired residency permits and five who failed to present valid identification documents, referral of three suspects to the Drug Control General Department, and two individuals were detained as they were found to be in abnormal condition.

Furthermore, 24 wanted vehicles were impounded, in addition to 250 vehicles and five motorcycles whose drivers committed various violations. A total of 17 individuals were placed in traffic detention and 21 juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution. Regarding accidents, traffic officers handled 957 collisions and 213 accidents involving injuries—totaling 1,170 incidents throughout the week. They took the necessary measures in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. The Traffic and Operations Sector affirmed its continuous traffic deployment and field monitoring on the roads, as well as its commitment to respond to reports and accidents and to crack down on violations and behaviors that impede traffic flow or compromise the safety of road users. It reiterated that such traffic campaigns are ongoing to guarantee road safety, reduce accidents and violations, and safeguard lives and property.
