Kuwait to launch Sahel service for replacement of lost vehicle plates

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: The General Directorate of Traffic is finalizing preparations to launch a new electronic service through the Sahel application that will allow citizens and residents to apply for replacement vehicle registration plates if the originals are lost, a security source said.

The source said the new service will enable vehicle owners to submit applications electronically without visiting traffic departments during the initial stage. Applicants will be able to upload the required documents in PDF format, complete the application process, and pay the prescribed fees through the app. After reviewing the application and verifying that all requirements have been met, the Directorate will notify applicants through Sahel of the date and time to collect the new license plate from the designated plate factory.

According to the source, the service is designed to simplify procedures, reduce processing times, ease congestion at customer service centers, and enhance the quality of government services. It is part of the Ministry of Interior's broader digital transformation strategy aimed at expanding electronic services and improving access through modern technology.

Responding to questions about users who are unable to access or download the Sahel application, the source said the General Directorate of Traffic will continue issuing paper driving licenses and vehicle registration booklets for those who request them, while digital versions will remain available through the Sahel and Huwayti applications.
