Hamad Al-Awadhi, Secretary of the Kuwaiti Fencing Federation

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: The Kuwait Fencing Federation announced that the Asian Fencing Federation has officially bestowed upon Kuwait the honor of hosting and organizing the 2024 Asian Fencing Championship. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place in June of the coming year and will be conducted under the vigilant oversight of the International Federation of Fencing.

This momentous hosting decision followed the 35th General Assembly of the Asian Fencing Federation, also known as the Asian Congress, during its latest meeting held on October 8 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Asian Congress, held in conjunction with the Asian U23 Championship, expressed its confidence in Kuwait to host the Asian Championship, considered the foremost sporting spectacle for Asian fencing. Additionally, Kuwait has been granted the privilege of hosting the Asian Junior and Junior Championships in 2025.

Hamad Al-Awadhi, the Secretary of the Kuwaiti Fencing Federation, expressed his gratitude for the Asian Federation’s trust in Kuwait to host this significant annual sporting event. This marks the second time that the championship will be hosted in the region since Qatar in 2009. Typically, East Asian countries have taken the lead in organizing this event due to their high proficiency and extensive experience. Al-Awadhi acknowledged that Kuwait’s successful bid to host the championship is a remarkable achievement attributable to the dedication of the Federation’s Board of Directors, led by Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan and the rest of the Council members.

Al-Awadhi further elaborated, “Kuwait’s decision to host this event is a courageous one, given the event’s paramount importance on the continental level, which rivals the World Championship in terms of competition intensity and participation. The championship will draw representatives from 38 countries, including approximately 1,500 athletes, administrators, coaches, and referees.”
He emphasized that the objectives of hosting these tournaments extend beyond mere competitive achievements; they also encompass valuable administrative opportunities, allowing Kuwait to connect with Asian countries boasting extensive experience and knowledge in the field.
