TUNIS, Oct 28: Kuwait’s handball team begins its campaign today in the friendly international tournament in Tunis, opening against Guinea, followed by matches against Iran on Thursday and the host team Tunisia on Saturday.
The team is currently holding an external training camp in Tunisia, led by Icelandic coach Aron Kristjansson and his assistant Haini Gívarsson, as part of preparations for the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, scheduled from November 7 to 21.
According to last week’s draw, Kuwait has been placed in Group B of the Islamic Solidarity Games alongside host Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Iraq, while Group A includes the UAE, Qatar, Iran, and the Maldives.
Heading the Kuwaiti delegation in Tunisia is Board Member Nasser Al-Da’as, accompanied by Treasurer Khaled Taleb, team manager Abdulaziz Al-Zuabi, the technical staff led by Kristjansson and Gívarsson, and a squad of 21 players.
After the Islamic Solidarity Games, Kuwait will compete in the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship, which serves as the qualifier for the 2027 World Cup in Germany, to be hosted in Kuwait from January 15–26. The draw placed Kuwait in Group C alongside the UAE, Hong Kong, and India.
Meanwhile, preparations are complete for the 7th Arab Women’s Clubs Championship for League and Cup winners, taking place in Hammamet, Tunisia, from November 3–9. The tournament features eight clubs: Salwa Al-Sabah and Qurain from Kuwait, Qasioun and Al-Nabak from Syria, and four Tunisian teams — Hammamet Women’s Association, Africain, Monastir, and Al-Sahel Association.
