Kuwait Thwarts Aerial Attacks After Detecting Missiles and Drones

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 9: Kuwait air defenses are currently confronting hostile missile and drone attacks. Any explosions heard result from air defense operations countering hostile attacks.

The official spokesperson for the National Guard, Brigadier General Dr. Jad'an Fadel, announced that a drone was intercepted and downed in an area under the National Guard’s responsibility. In a press statement, Brig. Gen. Fadel said the operation was carried out in accordance with established security protocols and demonstrated the high level of readiness maintained by the task force in safeguarding designated sites.

Earlier, the Kuwait Armed Forces announced on Sunday that air defense units intercepted a wave of hostile aerial targets that breached the country's airspace early in the day.

According to Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, the official spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, air defense systems detected seven hostile ballistic missiles. Three of the missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed, while four others were not engaged as they were outside the threat range and posed no danger.

The statement added that five hostile drones were also detected. Air defenses managed to shoot down two drones, while three others evaded interception. Two of the drones targeted the vicinity of Kuwait International Airport, causing explosions in nearby fuel tanks. Another drone struck the building of the Public Institution for Social Security in Kuwait City, resulting in material damage.

The General Staff of the Army clarified that the sounds of explosions heard in various areas were caused by air defense interceptions of incoming threats.

The Armed Forces reiterated their call for citizens and residents to adhere to safety instructions issued by relevant authorities and affirmed that the military remains on high alert to confront any attempt to undermine Kuwait’s security and stability.
