Kuwait team crowned with police sports shooting title

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: Kuwait’s national team was crowned the title of the Arab Police Sports Federations Championship for Practical Shooting which concluded Monday evening, after its champions won the first places. The first was in the individual and team competitions in the tournament, which witnessed the participation of more than 60 shooters from 17 Arab countries.

The Kuwait team, consisting of shooters Ali Al-Kandari, Omar Al- Ansari and Muhammad Al-Azmi, managed to win the gold medal in the team competition of the championship, which was organized by the Kuwaiti Police Sports Federation in Al-Ittihad Square in the Sabhan area, after presenting the remarkable levels in its two-day competitions.

The UAE team, consisting of shooters Ali Darwish, Abdulaziz Abdullah and Omar Jaafar, took second place and the silver medal, while the third place and the bronze medal went to the Saudi team, consisting of shooters Sultan Al-Shammari, Abdul-Aleem Al-Muwallad and Muhammad Al-Sulaimani. On the individual level, the Kuwaiti champions dominated the first three places, as Ali Al-Kandari snatched the gold medal and the championship cup after winning the first place, while Omar Al-Ansari won the second place to get the silver medal, while Mohammed Al-Azmi achieved the third place and the bronze medal.

The head of the Kuwaiti Police Sports Federation and head of the tournament’s organizing committee, Major General Juqi Waleed Al-Shehab, confirmed that the championship competitions were characterized by the high spirit of Arab athletes, despite the strength of competition “reflects the spirit of fraternity and honest competition between them, which indicates the full readiness and high efficiency of the Arab security man.” Al-Shehab said in his speech at the closing ceremony that the participation of 17 Arab police federations in the tournament and their appearance at a distinguished level and the strenuous efforts of the Kuwaiti Organizing Committee, contributed greatly to the success of the tournament winners. He extended his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Prime Minister and President of the International Police Sports Federation, Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, for his great support for police sports in all fields.

He also appreciated the support provided by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lt. Gen. Anwar Al-Barjas to this great police Arab gathering on the land of friendship and peace. Al-Shehab praised the role of the Arab Police Sports Federation and the members of the Police Sports Federation and committees, which led to the success of the Arab Police Sports Forum.

For his part, the head of the Arab Police Sports Federation, Brigadier General Khaled Al-Attiyah from Qatar, praised the distinguished Kuwaiti organization of the championship, stressing that the Kuwaiti Police Sports Federation is one of the most prominent and the most active Arab federations throughout the history of Arab police sports. Al-Attiyah said in his speech at the closing ceremony that the participation of most of the Arab police federations in this championship, develops the skills of the security man and enhances his skills in this type of shooting reflecting their interest in raising the efficiency of the Arab security man. In turn, Ali Al-Kandari expressed his happiness that he and his colleagues won the team competition title and their dominance in the first places in the individual category, explaining that the team’s strong preparations for the championship paid off this wonderful victory.

Al-Kandari said that his winning the first place in the two competitions came thanks to his leadership in all stages of the three competitions in light of the good levels of his Arab competitors, expressing his thanks to the federation officials for providing strong training camps for Kuwait shooters, which led to this great victory. It is noteworthy that the tournament witnessed the participation of shooters from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia and Morocco in addition to Kuwait.
