Players hold training ahead of the key clash against UAE.

QATAR, Dec 7: Kuwait returned to training as it prepares for its decisive Group C match against the United Arab Emirates tomorrow in the Arab Cup.

The Blues fell 1-3 to Jordan in their previous match, while the UAE drew 1-1 with Egypt, securing Jordan’s place in the quarterfinals. The second qualifying spot remains open, contested between Egypt (two points), Kuwait, and the UAE (one point each).

To advance, Kuwait must defeat the UAE and hope for a draw or a loss by Egypt against Jordan. Meanwhile, Egypt only needs a victory to guarantee qualification, regardless of the Kuwait-UAE result.

Portuguese coach Hélio Souza faced criticism after the Jordan defeat, following a sweeping squad overhaul in which he replaced all 11 starters from the Egypt match.

Speaking after the game, Souza admitted his disappointment: “We didn’t start the match as we should have, and Jordan quickly gained control. We needed a fast reaction.”

He added, “In the second half, the team performed much better. We dominated possession, created more chances, and managed to narrow the gap. We were close to equalizing before conceding the third goal.”

Souza stressed that the team must give their all in the final group match to keep qualification hopes alive. Several players also underwent medical sessions to recover from bruises and minor strains sustained against Jordan.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait Football Association has opened registration for fans wishing to support the team in the decisive UAE match, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and Kuwait Airways. Buses will transport fans directly from the airport to the stadium and return them afterward.

Since the playoff victory over Mauritania on November 25, which secured Kuwait’s spot in the group stage, the Football Association has provided civilian and military flights to facilitate fan attendance, ensuring strong support for the team throughout the tournament.
