KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) plans to raise the country's oil production to two million barrels per day within a week, following the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the interim peace agreement between the United States and Iran, KPC Deputy Chairman and CEO Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Sabah announced on Thursday.

In a press statement, Sheikh Nawaf said Kuwait could return to its pre-war production levels within weeks, provided international commercial shipping resumes normal operations to Kuwaiti ports. He noted that the country's oil sector has completed critical repairs to damaged energy infrastructure, allowing production recovery to proceed more quickly than previously anticipated.
The KPC chief also announced the immediate lifting of all force majeure notices issued during the conflict, signaling the sector's readiness to gradually restore normal operations and resume oil supplies in line with approved production plans.
Sheikh Nawaf emphasized KPC's commitment to working closely with customers and partners worldwide to ensure a smooth transition back to full contractual supply volumes. He reaffirmed Kuwait's dedication to maintaining the reliability of its energy exports and its position as a responsible supplier in global energy markets.
According to KPC, the planned production increase and restoration measures reflect significant progress in restarting the oil sector after wartime disruptions. The corporation said the move is expected to contribute to greater stability in global energy markets while strengthening Kuwait's ability to meet its obligations to international customers and strategic partners.
The announcement comes as regional energy markets closely monitor developments following the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. (KUNA)
