Kuwait sweeps singles podium at West Asia Table Tennis Championship

AMMAN, Aug 19 (KUNA): Kuwait’s U-11 girls dominated the singles event at the West Asia Table Tennis Championship in Jordan on Wednesday, claiming gold, silver and bronze.

Hayat Salah won the title after defeating teammate Sheikha Al-Ali in the final, leaving Al-Ali with the silver medal. Dalal Al-Shamali completed Kuwait’s clean sweep by beating Saudi Arabia’s Shouq Al-Dossari to take bronze.

The result saw Kuwait occupy all three podium places in the singles competition, which featured 16 players from across the participating countries.

Following Wednesday’s events, Kuwait’s overall medal tally at the championship has reached three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Kuwait is competing across multiple men’s and women’s age categories, including Open, U-19, U-17, U-15, U-13 and U-11.

The championship concludes Thursday and features 10 national teams from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Kuwait’s U-11 girls’ team secured the gold medal in the doubles event at the West Asia Table Tennis Championship in Jordan.

Earlier, Sheikha Al-Ali and Hayat Salah produced a strong performance to defeat Saudi Arabia 3-0 in the final and take the title.

Kuwait is competing across all age categories in both the boys’ and girls’ events, including senior, U-19, U-17, U-15, U-13 and U-11. The championship features teams from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Qatar, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Iraq, Bahrain and the UAE, with the competition set to conclude on Thursday.

The Kuwaiti girls have already collected several medals at the tournament. The senior team, represented by Mnouh Al-Shammari, Maryam Al-Halwaji, and Khadija Al-Halwaji, won bronze after finishing third in the round-robin competition.

Kuwait also claimed silver in the U-13 category after a 3-1 defeat to Bahrain in the final, while the U-19 team earned bronze by beating Bahrain 3-0 in the third-place playoff.

The U-13 squad consists of Al-Joud Al-Sanawi, Suad Al-Majdi, Al-Zain Al-Ali, and Sheikha Al-Ali, while the U-19 team features Maryam Al-Halwaji, Fatima Al-Shammari, and Khadija Al-Halwaji.
