KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday summoned Iran’s ambassador to Kuwait to formally protest what it described as “reprehensible” ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting the country.
The ministry, represented by Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Aziz Rahim Al-Deihani, conveyed Kuwait’s strong condemnation to Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Toutounji, stating that the attacks constituted a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of the United Nations Charter and international law.
In a statement, the ministry said one of the attacks targeted Kuwait International Airport, calling it a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits the targeting of civilian facilities and the endangerment of civilians.
Kuwait reaffirmed its full and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter in response to what it described as blatant aggression. The ministry said the country would take all necessary measures, in accordance with international law, to protect its territory, citizens and residents.
The statement also stressed that the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are indivisible, warning that any attack on the sovereignty of a GCC member state represents a direct threat to the bloc’s collective security.
